Grassaille

This was my first fully-fledged grassaille paintings. I put this in selected works because I don't often draw still life, however I am proud of my patience and the learning curve I had to overcome to create a technically skilled still life using traditional methods.

Although this piece needs lots of improvement, the myriad of hands show depth of skill and knowledge of anatomy and color theory. this was also the largest canvas I've worked on.

This piece is very special to me because it catalyzed my "style" throughout the portfolio-- using cardboard and oil pastels. I am visually proud of this piece, and it was also the smallest canvas I had worked on at the time.

Here I expiriemented with vibrant colors, stencils, and multiple mediums. I feel this piece shows my range in portraiture and my improvement in large-scale acrylic portraits.

I decided to add these to selected works to show my dedication to improving my portraiture skills. I also wanted to show my love of charcoal and sketching (and my proficiency in it) since it has not shown up in my ap portfolio.

Two years ago when I made this portrait of my grandma, I was unhappy with it because of my frustration with acrylics (having never used them to finished a piece before). Now, this piece has become one of my favorites because of my love for my grandma, the hands, and detail to color in this piece. I see vast improvements in portraiture between now and then.

UPCOMING PROJECTS:

Currently in the process of creating a three-part mini series on the history of art and the creative changes of each generation.
